Bret Easton Ellis & Alex Israel Get an Art Show in Beverly Hills

We now know the reason for Bret Easton Ellis’s high-profile presence with Alex Israel at Art Basel Miami Beach this year. It’s been revealed that the Gagosian Gallery’s Beverly Hills outpost will present a series of collaborations between the American Psycho novelist and the prominent young artist at its star-studded Oscars-week show this February.

Israel and Ellis announced the exhibition during a talk with curator Hans Ulrich Obrist in Miami Beach, and the news was confirmed to ARTnews by a Gagosian Gallery representative.

The show will exhibit large-scale paintings by Israel that will feature text penned by Ellis, taken from extensive dialogue between the two of them, with large landscape images as the background of the works.

The so-called “Oscars Show” at Larry Gagosian’s Beverly Hills space is perhaps its biggest opening of the year, and certainly the starriest. Last year, for the opening of the solo show for John Currin, guests such as Mick Jagger, Elton John, Jeff Bezos, and Steve Martin all attended the opening and the annual dinner at Mr. Chow down the street.

Israel and Ellis have previously collaborated on the artist’s fake talk show, As It Lays. The two will take the stagewith Obrist again on Friday during the Conversations portion of Art Basel.
